Yesterday we spent the day carefully walking around the neighbourhood looking for signs of Tony or Bill. It was a fairly quiet day on the streets as far as the reanimates were concerned. We came across a couple of the creatures but nothing too close and thankfully we didn’t have to fight any of them. None of us have any killing experience so I don’t know what we will do when that time comes….and we know it will come.
Walking through the streets was devastating to us all. To see the area we loved and live in destroyed by the chaos and brutality of these creatures was hard to take. Not to mention the havoc they have reigned down on the survivors who were trying to escape only to crash, break down, or just be over-taken by everything and lose their lives.
We were able to find some clues and a small trail for a brief while. Bill was seemingly taken by force as you could see drag marks through some of the residue left by the reanimates. We were able to follow the path just past Paul’s store. It was the first time in a long while I thought of him. I felt guilty for not honouring his death and contributions more. Maybe by being alive I am honouring him though. I’m sure if I didn’t follow some of his guidelines I would be dead by now. Or even worse I could be one of those creatures.
Every once in a while we would come across a dead reanimate. There would be severe head trauma to it, in one case there was only half a head remaining. I guess Tony was getting some aggression out while he was on his travels. The creature was slumped against a wall, one eye gazing vacantly into space. A slight turn and you could see that it’s head had been practically sliced down the centre. It was a clean cut too, half the brain remained in the skull, the jaw was still half in tact with only a few teeth broken near the centre. When you looked further down the reanimate, you could see the cut angling out in the neck. One side of the limp corpse was covered in a dark sticky mess of blood and filth. Whatever tool Tony used for this was nothing we had before. This was sharp and effective.
As we continued on our quest we realized we had no true plan other than to try and find some answers. Nerves began to get the better of us and we all started to get a little jumpy. In our final push forward we reached our breaking point when we turned a corner to find a large group of reanimates feasting. The person was unidentifiable as the face has been eaten clean to the bone. Blood covered the road and the creatures were in a frenzy. All of them were crouched over the prone body. Some were deep inside the stomach of this poor bastard eating like they were in a pie eating contest. Others had torn limbs and were eating them like a turkey leg with tendons and muscles hanging from the corners of their mouths. The sound and smell was revolting.
We backed away quietly and went back home. We knew at this point if we were to go further we would be tempting fate. At this point in time it would be safer to stay inside and wait than attempt some feeble rescue mission. For all we know that could have been Bill being eaten in front of us. Maybe Tony used him as a living shield and when attacked just fed him to the wolves so to speak.
Either way, we aren’t going to try this again. We are going to cut our losses and attempt to move forward. Sorry Bill.
